bio: Joe's parents died in a car accident when he was something around 12, and his grandparents moved out of retirement and into his family's home to take care of him so as not to disturb his life any more than necessary. They're strict and old-fashioned, and not especially enamored of some of the members of the older group he tends to hang out with (read: Link, Lance...) but they love him.
Joe's the boy next door personified. As one of the youngest, he's more of a periphery member of the group. A brother to be tolerated, who's only just coming into his own and establishing his rightful place.
Joe wanted nothing more, for most of his life, than to be like the guys, so it took him a really long time to find out who he actually was. Now, he's found that maybe he does like being his own person and maintaining friends and popularity on his own merit.
The love of his life is and always has been Lee, so he's just waiting around for her to realize their potential.

Just like most people can concentrate on those posters that were popular in the '90s and see 3D images in the designs, Joe can find what he imagines to be the fifth dimension just by concentrating and looking for it. Then, once he's in that zone, he can interact with reality on that level, just as anyone can in the 4d world.
Joe has the ability to warp reality in such a way as allow for teleportation (folding reality to make two points closer together), small bursts of superspeed (much like stretching a rubberband to fling an object), and invisibility or intangibility (the result of partially existing in two places at once) among other things.
