bio:
Lance has the public reputation of a wild-child.
The Emerys are a very rich family where the parents are most often away on vacation or business trips and the raising of children was left up to a live-in Nanny. From the first, Lance found it almost impossible to stay out of the public eye, and it didn't take him long to stop trying.
Lance's reputation for easy smiles, easy living and easy loving are well-founded and provided the mix of mystery and speculation that allows him to walk that fine line of fame where everyone thinks they knew him, but no one really does. That's just the way he likes it.
In reality, he likes things kept shallow and surface-level so that he can keep from drowning. His insensitivity masks raw oversensitivity. And though wayward and self-indulgent, Lance is the ultimate in protective older brothers and friends.
In his teens, he turned the entire basement of the family mansion into a bachelor pad...and Alora helped him turn it into a safety retreat from his powers.
power: Flectere / Empath.
Flectere is the Latin base for English words like "reflect" and "deflect" and literally means "to bend or adapt". In Lance's case this applies to both powers and emotions.
Lance will reflexively reflect back at the caster any power he comes in contact with that his body can process. If he doesn't have the capacity to process the power, it will hit as intended. Thus, Lance is constantly playing a kind of Russian Roulette in battle.
Any powers that have successfully been deflected are stored, as in muscle memory, and can later be reaccessed consciously (adapted) once he finds the key to unlocking them. Use beyond the reflective play is very hard to accomplish.
Empathically speaking, Lance is a much stronger projector than receiver, though he has the capacity to do both.
