bio: Link's not originally from this world.
Though destined for each other, his father (elf) and mother (gypsy) were not together more than days before Link's father disappeared. Shortly after Link was born his mother predicted her own death and, wanting him to be taken care of, left her own Gypsy clan in favor of the Elvish society.
He was raised as an Elf, with whatever Gypsy lore and tradition his mother supplemented, until roughly a year after she died when he was abruptly taken to the other world by the Wizard Council to live with his uncle.
Little toddler Link was completely displaced and shoved into a less than desirable situation without a word of explanation. His guardian now was a high level mob affiliate and a nasty abusive drunk. Aside from the obvious problems stemming from abusive personalities, the uncle was prone to disappear for extended periods of time even when Link was small, and more than once his work followed him home.
Link was a very wild and unstable child; volatile, angry and - without use of the common "Earth" languages for quite some time - very confused. Mostly through necessity, he survived. Evidence of this would be a lengthy police record that started before he began school and a nasty reputation that got its start just as early. As he got old enough to start making choices for himself (albeit not legally) he opted to stay away from home as much as possible - aided and abetted by his friends - making for the semi-well adjusted guy he is, rather than the complete deviant he could've been.
Also of note is the fact that he had spent minor time in juvenile detention facilities as well as foster homes (the longest time being roughly six months when he was 16), but tends to be returned to his Uncle rather quickly, more than likely because of well placed connections.

Elves are the ultimate predators, though they've evolved beyond random acts of violence and into a more peaceful society that generally guards rather than attacks. Elves are the ultimate society, which combine aspects of many (most notably Native American & Eastern).
Like many traditional Native Americans, they have an affinity with nature and live in portable dwelling ...and like many Eastern societies they master many forms of hunting, weaponry, hand to hand combat, and fighting styles. Natural abilities are mostly catlike in nature - enhanced senses and reflexes; sight in the dark (Link gives off blue eye-shine); flexibility, tumbling & aerial type gymnastics. Grace and scaling/climbing come naturally as well.
Link, in particular, did begin training before he was displaced from the elvish society, but that's almost nothing at this point. He relies heavily on instinct and the natural abilities, and his weapons of choice are throwing knives.
