He has a sister.
Sometimes Danny still has a hard time wrapping his brain around that one, even face to beaming face with her. And when he thinks about all the things that could’ve meant to him over the years… well, he tries not to dwell on “could have been”s.
He’s completely disgusted with himself when he thinks back to all the obvious signs and the things he knew - because he DID know - and realizes he willfully forgot. Seven was definitely old enough to understand.
Maybe not understand what it all meant, but understand that he was asking someone else to be the brother she deserved. Because he had asked. Explicitly. That part he remembered, and thank some god for the forethought. Though, man. Knowing Lance as he did now, he should be horrified he had honestly trusted that boy.
But then, that’s why it’s called fate.
Because there’s no way he could’ve asked for a more wonderful, beautiful, endearing and loving sister. Someone did that, and it hadn’t been him.
So he couldn’t bring himself to second guess Lance’s choices, condemn his actions, or even be jealous of the guy… he just plain owed him too much.
